I have been trying to create ‘pages’ without much luck. I can get images but no text. I put the cover of my latest book, the fourth in the Upper Peninsula saga.

Why people pay for a website. I have been driving myself crazi(er) for the past week trying to figure out html, css, ftp, asp, xml, php, and whatever else (spry?). I am no further than I was, but much humbler.  So I have dumped Dreamweaver for ‘PageBreeze’. Not so much a breeze, but I have finally figured out that if I divide the page up into single-celled tables, I can put stuff where I want it.  Don’t tell me if that is not going to work!!  Let me go in in blissful ignorance for a time.

I have my domain all transferred and the webhost set. A place in California with a fella named Jason probably working out of his garage.  A slipup with my credit card, and he was on the phone (international!) in minutes.  What a guy.

It’s Friday night and I’m taking a break to watch Poirot. I wish they’d show Rumpole.

Here goes . . .

Blog day one:  I’ve spent the past few days trying to create a website, not something any of you reading this would find particularly  interesting.  Hearing about the ins and outs of putting it together, that is. The finished product is guaranteed to be fascinating.  It’s involved quite a bit of time checking out other sites. Being a Luddite, I hardly ever go on the web except when forced.  Oh, gee, I was about to begin complaining about the quality of the average website, and I had promised myself no griping onblog for at least the first week.

I am back in Aberdeenshire, and the usual raging gale, (I’m not griping!!) after a too short visit home to Minnesota. It was real winter there; Snow, unrelenting sunshine, minus 20 every night—perfect!

Here’s my odd thing of the day: In the US I hardly know anyone who doesn’t play golf, at least now and again. In six years in Scotland, the heart and soul and birthplace of the game, I have yet to meet a single golfer.

Back to work.

Hello world!

Talk about modern conveniences, I register for the blogsite, and in miliseconds my first entry is done for me! I could have used a bit of time to explore the options. What the heck are tags?  Ah ha, I see I have but to ask,  not right now if I don’t want to lose this  gem of wisdom message. Hmmm, I don’t seem to see how it gets posted. Oh, maybe it just is. Post Slug?? I do need to do some exploring!

I’ll be getting back to you all.  Peace.
